[본문] 히브리서 Hebrew 10:23-25

Today’s Scripture is from Hebrew Chapter 10 Verse 23-25.

As we respect the Word of God, let us all stand up.

1.     또 약속하신 이는 미쁘시니 우리가 믿는 도리의 소망을 움직이지 말며 굳게 잡고 / 서로 돌아보아 사랑과 선행을 격려하며 / 모이기를 폐하는 어떤 사람들의 습관과 같이 하지 말고 오직 권하여 그 날이 가까움을 볼수록 더욱 그리하자 (히 10:23-25)

2.     “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. / And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, / not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrew 10:23-25, ESV)

3.     다음 5가지 질문들에 금방 떠 오르는 사람이 있으시면 (속으로) ‘예스’하시면 됩니다. If anyone immediately comes to mind for the following five question, you may silently say “yes.”

8.     (5) 내가 이 세상 떠날 때 남겨진 가족을 돌봐 달라고 부탁할 사람이 있다. There is someone you could ask to take care of your family after you die.

9.     [그림] 이 질문들은 존 오트버그의 ‘관계 훈련’이라는 책에서 발췌했고, 제가 조금 수정한 질문들입니다. These questions are from John Ortberg’s book “I’d Like You More If You Were Like Me More,” with some modifications by me.

10. ‘함께 있어도 외롭다’라는 표현이 있습니다. There is an expression that says, “Even when together, one can feel lonely.”

11. [그림] (같은 테이블에 있어도 각자 스마트 폰 보는 가족들) Family members are looking at their smartphones even when sitting at the same table.

12. 판데믹 이후, 그리고 기계의 발달 등으로 인해 우리들의 삶은 어쩌면 이렇게 ‘군중속의 고독감’을 맛보며 사는지도 모르겠습니다. Since the pandemic and the development of technology, our lives may be experiencing the so called “loneliness in the midst of crowds.”

13. 아무리 많은 사람이 있어도 그 속에 진정한 마음이 없으면 능력 없는 그룹이 되고 맙니다. No matter how many people are around, it may become ineffective and powerless group if they fail to share genuine hearts.

14. 오병이어로 5천명이 먹었다는 것은 놀라운 체험입니다. The fact that 5,000 people were fed with five loves and two fish is an astonishing experience.

15. 그러나 계속 먹을 것에 관심이 있었기에 그 다음날 먹을 것 대신 구원과 생명을 말씀하시는 예수님을 대부분의 사람들은 떠나고 말았습니다. Since most of them were interested in what they would eat the next day, however, they left Jesus, who spoke of salvation and eternal life instead of bread.

16. 그러나 끝까지 남아있던 제자들을 데리시고 예수님은 3년 동안 최선의 헌신을 다하셨습니다. Yet, Jesus continued to teach and serve his disciples for three years who stayed until the end.

17. 그리고 그 진정성 있는 소그룹의 사람들이 나중에 전 세계로 가서 진리의 복음을 전하며, 교회를 세우며, 심지어 순교하는 자들이 되었습니다. Eventually, those disciples from that small group went on to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth, established churches, and even became martyrs.

18. 가장 강력한 열매와 결과를 낳은 것입니다. It yielded the most powerful results.

[본문 배경-히브리서] Background

19. 히브리서는 책의 이름이 표현하듯이 유대교에서 기독교로 개종한 히브리 인들에게 쓰여진 책입니다. As its name suggests, the Book of Hebrews was written to Hebrews who converted from Judaism to Christianity.

20. 이들은 기독교인이 되었다는 이유로 로마 황제의 핍박도 있었지만, They faced persecution from the Roman Emperor for becoming Christians,

21. 자신이 평생 지켜왔던 이념과 교리, 그리고 공동체로부터 오해와 위협도 받은 자들이었습니다. but they also encountered misunderstandings and threats from their own lifelong beliefs, doctrines, and communities.  

22. 그래서 오늘 읽은 본문에는 이러한 핍박과 위협, 외로움과 고독을 이겨 내기 위한 격려의 말씀이 담겨 있습니다. Therefore, today’s passage contains words of encouragement for them to overcome such persecution, threats, and loneliness.

23. ‘군중 속의 고독’ 대신에 ‘세상을 변혁시키는 공동체’가 되기 위하여 우리 또한 셀 주일을 맞이하여 이 말씀을 함께 붙잡기를 원합니다. As we observe the Cell Sunday, let us hold to these words to strive to become a “community that transforms the world” instead of being “lonely in the midst of crowds.”

[1. 은혜 공동체] Community of Grace

24. 먼저 23절의 말씀을 같이 읽겠습니다. First, let’s read verse 23 together.

25. [성경구절] (히 10:23) “또 약속하신 이는 미쁘시니 우리가 믿는 도리의 소망을 움직이지 말며 굳게 잡고” “Let us hold unswerving to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)

26. 참된 능력과 사랑의 공동체가 되기 위해서 가장 중요한 것은 바로 ‘구원받은 은혜 공동체’입니다. To become a community of true power and love, the most important thing is the “community of grace which was saved.”

27. 이 구절에서 약속은 구원의 약속이고, 미쁘시다는 말은 그 구원을 십자가에서 이룩하신 예수 그리스도를 의미합니다. In this verse, the promise is the promise of salvation, and “he who promised” refers to Jesus Christ, who fulfilled that salvation on the cross.

28. 그리고 초림의 예수님께서 약속을 지키셨듯이, 예수님께서 반드시 함께 하시고, 영원한 하나님 나라를 건설해 주신다는 말씀을 히브리서를 읽으면서 소망을 가졌습니다. I had hope as I read the Hebrews in that Jesus will surely be with us, and he will establish the eternal Kingdom of God, just as he kept his promise during his ministry on the earth.

29. 참된 능력, 사랑, 소망의 공동체는 이 예수 그리스도의 십자가 은혜 위에 서 있는 공동체입니다. The community of true power, love, and hope is the community that stands on the grace of Jesus Christ’s cross.

30. 이 은혜가 기초할 때, 우리는 십자가의 능력, 예배의 능력, 이 시간에도 함께 하시는 하나님의 능력, 말씀의 능력, 기도의 능력을 공유할 수 있습니다. When this grace becomes the foundation, we can share the power of the cross, the power of worship, the power of God who is with us even in this moment, the power of the Word, and the power of prayer.

[2. 친밀 공동체] Community of Intimacy

31. [성경 구절] (히 10:24) 서로 돌아보아 사랑과 선행을 격려하며 / And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, (Hebrews 10:24)

32. 참된 공동체의 두번째 요소는 ‘친밀함’입니다. The second element of a true community is “intimacy.” 

33. 사랑과 소망의 격려는 핍박과 고난 가운데 반드시 필요합니다. Love and encouragement of hope are absolutely necessary in the midst of persecution and hardship.

34. 여기서 중요한 표현은 ‘서로(one another)’, ‘돌아보며(consider)’, ‘격려한다(stir up)’는 표현입니다. Here, important phrases are “one another,” “consider,” and “stir up,”

35. 이 모두는 진정한 친밀함의 표현입니다. And all of them are expressions of genuine intimacy.

36. 구원의 은혜를 체험한 신앙인들은 다른 영혼들을 향하여 돌아보며, 격려합니다. Those who experienced the grace of salvation look after other people and encourage them.

37. 은혜로, 공짜로 구원받았기에, 그 큰 사랑을 다름 사람에게도 행하게 되는 것입니다. Because they were saved freely, by grace, they were enabled to extend that great love to others as well. 

38. 이 친밀함은 상대방을 배려하는 ‘상호성’을 갖습니다. This intimacy involves a sense of “mutuality,” where one cares for the others.

[3. 계속 공동체] Community of Continuity

41. [성경구절] (히 10:25) 모이기를 폐하는 어떤 사람들의 습관과 같이 하지 말고 오직 권하여 그 날이 가까움을 볼수록 더욱 그리하자 “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25)

42. 지금까지 참된 능력의 공동체는 ‘은혜’ 그리고 ‘친밀함’이 그 기초가 되어야 한다고 나눴습니다. We have discussed so far that a community of true power should be founded upon “grace” and “intimacy.”

43. 마지막으로 이 공동체는 ‘계속 공동체’의 자세를 갖습니다. Lastly, this community should embody a “continuing community” attitude.

44. 이 구절에서 ‘그 날’은 핍박 가운데에서나, 주님 다시 오실 때까지 ‘계속’되는 공동체를 의미합니다. In this verse, “the Day” refers to a community that “continues” in the midst of persecution or until the Lord returns.

45. 1만 시간의 법칙을 아실 것입니다. You may be familiar with the 10,000-hour rule.

46. 한가지 어려운 기술을 터득하는 데는 1만 시간이 걸린다는 말입니다. It suggests that the key to achieving true expertise in any skill is simply a matter of practicing for at least 10,000 hours.

47. 그런데 존 오트버그는 이 1만 시간의 법칙을 예수님의 제자들에게도 적용해 보았습니다. John Ortberg applied this 10,000-hous rule to the disciples of Jesus.

48. [도표] 10시간 * 340일*3년 == 10,200 시간의 제자훈련 10 X 340 X 3 = 10,200 hours of discipleship training

49. 목회 현장의 경험상 이 1만 시간의 법칙은 매우 적절하다고 생각됩니다. From my ministry experience, this 10,000-hour rule seems quite fitting.

50. 3년을 함께 할 때, 진정한 소통(communication), 공감(sympathy), 동감(empathy)을 하게 됩니다. When spending three years together, we may become better at true communication, sympathy, and empathy.

51. 그리고 그로 인해 참된 헌신 공동체로 나아가게 됩니다. It results in us becoming a community of true dedication.

52. 그런 면에서 교회를 다니실 때, 소그룹에 속하시고 섬기실 때, 어떤 사역에 헌신하실 때 이 일만 시간의 법칙을 적용해 보시기 바랍니다. In this light, please consider applying this 10,000-hour rule when attending church, joining a small group, or serving in ministry.

54. [기도] 십자가의 은혜에 기초한 공동체, 친밀함을 갖는 공동체, 그리고 주님 오실 때까지 함께 계속 나아가는 공동체 되게 하소서 May we become a community of grace, a community of intimacy, and a community that continues until the Lord comes again.
