Applications Open Soon for Ann Arbor’s New Guaranteed Income Program |
In April 2022, Ann Arbor City Council set aside $1.6 million of the city’s federal stimulus funds for a universal basic income program to be modeled after one in Stockton, California. Now, the new pilot program, Guaranteed Income to Grow Ann Arbor, will soon accept applications.
Guaranteed income is different from other programs in that there are no requirements that you spend the money a certain way. This new program will give 100 Ann Arbor resident households $528 per month in guaranteed income for two years. First payments will start in early 2024 and households can spend the money however they want with no strings attached. They will be asked to complete three surveys over the course of the two years, answering questions about how they use the money, their health and wellbeing, and other experiences such as affording food, housing, and child care. The University of Michigan’s Poverty Solutions team is administering the program for the City of Ann Arbor.
Applications will be accepted between October 2nd - 13th. To learn more and apply visit giga2.org. |
