제목: 제목: Re-Vision(2) “오직 그리스도 예수!” "Only Christ Jesus!"

 

[본문] 요한복음 John 14:4-6

As we respect the Word of God, let us all stand up.

4. 내가 어디로 가는지 그 길을 너희가 아느니라

5. 도마가 이르되 주여 주께서 어디로 가시는지 우리가 알지 못하거늘 그 길을 어찌 알겠사옵나이까

6. 예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라

 

4. You know the way to the place where I am going."

5. Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"

6. Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

1.    [그림-십자가] 목회를 하면서 늘 기억나고, 잊지 못하는 순간들이 있습니다. While serving in the ministry, there are moments that I cannot forget.

2.    그 상황은 거의 15년 정도 된 듯 합니다. It probably happened 15 years ago.

3.    한 성도님께서 다른 지역으로 직장 따라 떠나시면서 저에게 나눠 주신 말씀인데, 저는 늘 저의 목회 상황에서 돌아보게 되는 내용입니다. As he had to move to another area due to his job, a church member left me with his thoughts, which often helped me to reflect on my ministry.  

4.    (그 내용은 이런 것입니다) ‘목사님, 요즈음 저희 교회에 십자가가 잘 보이지 않는 것 같아요…’ “Pastor Bae, there seems to be no cross in our church.”

5.    제가 그 때 당시 이미 저희 교회에서 목회를 시작한 지 몇 년이 된 상황이었고, 교회도 조금씩 성장하는 그런 상황이었습니다. At that time, I had already been serving in our church for a few years, and the church was gradually growing.

6.    그런 상황에서 그 성도님께서 보실 때, 저희 교회가 외적 성장의 상황 가운데 교회가 사회적 만남과 교제 중심의 장소로 변해 가고 있지 않았나를 한번 더 돌아보기를 원하는 그런 말씀이셨던 것 같습니다. I believe that he wanted me to make sure to reflect whether the church was going in the right direction, or whether it was growing to become more of just a social gathering.

7.    교회는 세상이라는 홍수 속에 같이 빠져 들어가는 난파선이 아닙니다.  The church should not be like an ark sinking into the flood of the world.

8.    튼튼히 역청으로 칠해져서 물 위에 떠 있음으로 세상의 사람들을 바르게 이끌어 주는 역할을 하는 곳이 되어야 합니다. But church should instead stand firmly, coated with pitch, guiding people in the right way.

9.    그러나 어느 순간 교회가 그 바른 역할과 기능을 하지 못하고, 세상의 방향과 같이 나아갈 때… but, when the church fails to play its role in the world, moving in the same direction as the world…

10. 실은 그 때 오히려 교회는 더 냉철하게 자기 자신을 돌아보고 (자신의 정체성과 방향을 제대로 가고 있는지를) 점검하고 반성해야 하는 것입니다. It is in fact the time that the church should examine itself and self-reflect.

 

11. 제자들이 예수님과 함께 있었을 때에는 참으로 좋았고, 신났습니다. When the disciples were with Jesus, they were happy and exhilarated.

12. 병자도 낫게 하시고, 기적도 베풀어 주시고, 오병이어로 많은 사람들을 먹여 주시는 놀랍고 풍성한 경험을 제자들은 하게 되었습니다. They were able to witness Jesus healing the sick, performing miracles, and feeding the crowd with two fish and five loaves of bread.

13. 그런데 요한복음 12-13장으로 오면서 예수님께서 자신이 십자가에서 죽을 것이라고 말씀 하시게 됩니다. However, Jesus begins to talk about his impending death on the cross in John 12-13.

14. 제자들은 멘붕의 상태가 되었습니다. The disciples were in a state of shock.

15. 자신들의 처지가 성공적으로 되었고, 자신들은 출세를 위해 줄을 잘 잡았다고 생각했었습니다. They thought they had become successful, hoping for a better future.

16. 그러나 그 원천인 예수님께서 이제 십자가에서 죽는다고 하시고, 또 자신은 이 세상을 떠난다고 하셨던 것이니 제자들이 얼마나 마음에 실망감과 좌절감이 컸겠습니까? But, Jesus, the source of their hope, now speaks of dying on the cross and leaving this world. How disappointed and disheartened the disciples must have been!

17. 합리적이고, 계산적이고, 의심이 많았던 도마가 이러한 상황에서 예수님을 향해서 묻습니다. Now, Thomas, who was rational, calculative, and doubtful, asks Jesus,

18. 도대체 예수님께서 왜 이렇게 말씀하시는 것이냐고… 예수님께서 말씀하신 뜻이 무엇이냐고… Why is Jesus saying such things and what do they mean?

19. 그 때 예수님께서 말씀하십니다. Jesus answers.

20. ‘내가 곧 길이고, 진리고, 생명이라고’.  “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

 

21. 지금 이 세상은 너무나 길이 많습니다. 그래서 혼돈도 많습니다. There are too many different philosophies and ways in this world, which leads to lots of confusion.

22. [그림] 이 그림은 전 세계 항공 노선도(The Global Aviation Network)입니다. This is the Global Aviation Network.

23. 온 세상에는 항공으로, 차량으로, 배로, 그리고 전파 등으로 수많은 길이 있습니다. There are countless paths in the world—by air, land, sea, and through various means like radio waves.

24. 이 예배당 안에서도 수많은 보이지 않는 전파의 길로 사람들은 움직이고 연결되고 있습니다.(개인 스마트 폰 보시는 분들도 계실 것이고…ㅎㅎㅎ) Even in this room, countless invisible paths of radio waves are moving around people.

25. 그러나 그 많은 길에 정말 제대로 가야 할 길, 바른 길이 어떤 길일까요? But amidst all these paths, what is the correct path that we should take?

26. 예수님께서 말씀하신 ‘내가 곧 길’(The Way)이라는 말씀은 ‘유일한 길’이라는 말입니다. When Jesus says that he is the Way, it means that he is the only Way.

27. 왜 예수님만이 유일한 길일까요? Why is Jesus the only way?

28. 제가 이번 주에 요한복음을 전체적으로 한번 읽게 되었습니다. I read the Gospel of John this week.

29. 이 요한복음만 봐도 예수님이 유일한 길이라는 것을 온전히 깨닫게 됩니다. Just reading the Gospel of John helped me to fully realize that Jesus is the only Way.

30. 요한복음에는 ‘나는~이다’(에고 에이미)라는 특별한 헬라어 용법이 7번 표현됩니다. In John, the phrase “I am,” ego eimi in Greek, appears seven times.

31. 헬라어에서 ‘에고~에이미’는 굳이 사용하지 않아도 되는데, 했다는 것은 강조 용법이라는 말입니다.  In Greek, "ego eimi" doesn't necessarily have to be used, but when it is used, it emphasizes the expression.

32. 이 말은 이 표현이 매우 중요하다는 말입니다.  That means, this expression is very important.

33. 만약에 제가 스스로 ‘나는 미국 대통령이다’라고 한다면 다 저를 놀리실 것입니다. If I were to say, “I am the President of the United States,” you would all mock me.

34. 목사님, 착각도 잘 하시네요… 라고 놀리실 것입니다. You would think me to be out of mind.

35. 그래서 결코 그런 표현을 사용하지 않는 것입니다. That’s why I never use such expressions.

36. 그런데 정상적인 예수님께서 이렇게 사용하셨다는 것은 실제로 예수님께서 그런 분이시기 때문입니다. But the fact that Jesus said so indicates that he truly is who he claimed to be.

37. 그것도 일곱번이나… 그 일곱구절은 다음과 같습니다. These are the seven statements.

38. 나는 생명의 떡이다.(6:35) / 나는 세상의 빛이다(8:12) / 나는 문이다.(10:7,9) / 나는 선한 목자다.(10:11) / 나는 부활이요, 생명이다(11:25) / 나는 길이요 진리요 생명이다(14:6) / 나는 참 포도나무다(15:1.5) “I am the bread of life” (6:35) / “I am the light of the world” (8:12) / “I am the door” (10:7,9) / “I am the good shepherd” (10:11) / “I am the resurrection and the life” (1125) / “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (14:6) / “I am the vine” (15:1,5) (설명)

39. 이 외에도 요한복음 전체를 읽으면서 저는 이 세상에서 그 어떤 위대한 인물, 위대한 교주가 줄 수 없는 능력과 위로, 공급과 보호, 은혜와 사랑, 기쁨과 감사를 깨닫게 되었습니다. Reading the entire Gospel of John, I found strength, comfort, provision, protection, grace, love, gratitude, and joy in Jesus that no other great humans or leaders can provide.

40. 즉 예수님께서 우리가 걸어 가야 할 올바른 길로 이끄시는 유일한 분이라는 말씀입니다.  That means, Jesus is the only way that we need to go.

41. 그리고 이 말씀들을 읽으면서 예수님께서 ‘진리’라고 하신 말씀을 더 깊게 깨닫게 되었습니다. I gained a deeper understanding of what Jesus meant by calling himself the “truth.”

42. 요한복음 8:32에 ‘진리를 알찌니 진리가 너희를 자유케 한다’고 말씀하셨습니다. In John 8:32, Jesus said, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

43. 그렇습니다. Indeed, it is.

44. 생명의 떡이고, 빛이고, 문이고, 선한 목자되시고, 부활이요 생명 되시며, 길되시며, 참 포도나무 되시는 주님을 깨달을 때(설명), 그 속에 전인적 자유함을 깨닫게 된 것입니다. We come to find true freedom in Jesus when we realize that he is the bread of life, the light, the door, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the way, and the true vine.

45. 이 세상의 그 어떤 종교로 부터도, 책으로부터도, 사람으로부터도 이러한 참된 풍성함, 참된 능력을 깨달을 수 없습니다. No religions, books, or people from the world can provide us with such truth and true power.

 

46. (그리고 이 표현 가운데) 예수님께서 진리를 알 때 라고 하신 그 ‘아는 것’은 일반 사람이 ‘아는 것’과는 다른 앎을 말합니다. When Jesus spoke about knowing the truth, the “knowing” he referred to is different from the knowledge that we usually possess.

47. 철학 공부를 해 보신 분들은 아시겠지만, 근대 이후 진리를 찾는 자세는 인간의 경험 혹은 이성으로 찾습니다. Since modern times, the truth is often pursued through human experience or reason.

48. 예를 들어서 제가 안경 벗고 세상을 보면 눈 앞에 있는 것만 보게 되듯이, 지금 현대는 나의 경험과 이성으로 이해 되는 것만 진리라고 말합니다. For instance, just as I see only what is in front of me when I take off my glasses, the modern era considers as truth what they understand through their experience and reason.

49. 그런데 경험 밖의 영역에 있는 것들 속에서도 분명히 일어날 수 있는 일들이 많은데, 그것은 기적이라고 하고 믿지 않는 것입니다. But even though many things can clearly happen within the realm beyond personal experience, they wouldn’t believe them, calling them miracles.

50. 사람이 동력을 사용하여 하늘을 날개 된 때가 언제인지 아십니까? Do you know when a human could fly in the sky?

51. 1903년 12월 17일, 라이트 형제가 처음으로 비행 동력을 통해 하늘을 날았습니다. On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers achieved the first powered flight in history.

52. 불과 100년이 조금 넘은 시점입니다.  120여년 전에는 인간이 하늘을 난다는 것은 기적이라고 생각했습니다. It’s just a little over a 100 years ago. One hundred twenty years ago, the idea of humans flying in the sky was considered a miracle.

53. (그러나 지금은 인간이 하늘을 나는 것을 기억이라고 하지 않습니다)

54. 이렇듯 근대 이후의 관점은 인간의 모든 경험과 논리, 과학으로 모든 지식을 제약하고 있습니다. The idea since modern times confines all knowledge to human experience, logic, and science.

55. 지식이 발달할 수록 점점 기적이 이해가 되고, 상식이 되어 감에도 불구하고, 인간의 지적 상황을 뛰어넘는 영역을 인간은 믿지 않고 받아 들이지 않습니다. Although miracles become understood and commonplace as knowledge advances, humans still would not accept and believe in realms that surpass intellectual understanding. (지식만, 기적만. 노노)

56. 그러나 여기서 진리를 알찌니에서 ‘안다’는 말은 경험과 논리를 뛰어 넘어 인간의 철저한 연약함을 깨닫는 앎, 그리고 기적의 영역도 있음을 인정하게 되는 깨달음 등을 포함하는 의미입니다. When Jesus says, “you will know the truth,” it implies a knowing that goes beyond experience and reason, an acknowledgment of human frailty, and a recognition of the area of miracles.

57. 이는 바로 성경을 지으신 보혜사 성령님께서 가르쳐 주시고, 깨닫게 하시는 전인적 깨달음, 전인적 앎을 말씀하시는 것입니다. This is precisely the transcendent understanding and knowledge taught and revealed by the Holy Spirit, who inspired the Scripture.

58. [요 14:26] 보혜사 곧 아버지께서 내 이름으로 보내실 성령 그가 너희에게 모든 것을 가르치고 내가 너희에게 말한 모든 것을 생각나게 하리라 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)

59. 성경은 성령님을 통하여 지정의의 앎을 뛰어 넘어, 인간의 연약함을 인정하는 신앙고백적 앎, 영적 깨달음의 앎까지 포함하는 전인적 앎으로 저희를 인도하시는 것입니다. The Bible, through the Holy Spirit, guides us not only to a knowledge of human soul but also to a knowledge that confesses human frailty and a spiritual understanding.

60. 그리고 이렇게 깨닫게 된 전인적 앎을 통해서 참된 자유함을 갖게 됩니다. Through this holistic knowledge, we attain true freedom.

61. 주는 것도 기쁘고, 섬기는 것도 기쁘고, 선교지의 힘든 상황도 기쁘고, 심지어 죽음의 상황도 평안과 소망과 기대로 맞이하게 됩니다.  Giving is joyful, serving is joyful, even challenging situations in mission fields bring joy, and, remarkably, facing situations of death is approached with peace, hope, and anticipation.

 

62. 그리고 예수님께서 ‘생명’이라고 하셨습니다.  즉 생명을 갖게 된다는 말입니다. We also gain life.

63. 여기서 생명은 헬라어로 ‘조에’라고 하는데 이는 물리적 영역 뿐만 아니라 영적 영역까지 포함하는 전인적 생명력을 말합니다(영혼육, 지정의-금식 때 기쁘고 힘이 남. 기도 후 세상이 줄 수 없는 생명과 평안이 넘침). Here, the word “life” is zoe in Greek, and it refers to a life that encompasses not only the physical realm but also the spiritual realm.

64. 또한 하나님께서 스스로 계시듯이(self-existing life) 그러한 영원한 생명의 삶을 사는 것까지를 말합니다. It also refers to living eternal life, just as God exists in a self-existing manner (self-existing life).

65. 죽어도 사는 그런 생명력을 말합니다(내가 매일 기쁘게 순례의 길 행함은… 성령의 열매…). It signifies a life that continues to exist even after physical death. (초대 교회 순교)

66. 지금까지 길 되시고, 진리 되시고, 생명되시는 예수 그리스도를 함께 나눴습니다. Up to now, we have shared about Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life.

67. (자, 질문입니다) 이런 예수 그리스도가 나의 삶에 있습니까?  Do you have Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth, and the life?

 

68. 어느 날, 음악을 좋아하는 저로서 인터넷을 통해 음악을 들었는데, 너무나 좋은 가사가 저의 귀에 울렸습니다. One day, I was listening to music on the internet, and the lyrics of a song deeply resonated with me.

69. (천번이고) 다시 태어난대도 그런 사람 또 없을테죠 슬픈 내 삶을 따뜻하게 해줄 참 고마운 사람입니다. “Even if I were born again, there would be no one like him/her, who warms my heart.”

70. (그런 그대를 위해서) 나의 심장쯤이야 얼마든 아파도 좋은데 (사랑이란 그 말은 못해도) 먼곳에서 이렇게 바라만 보아도 모든걸 줄수 있어서 사랑할수 있어서 난 슬퍼도 행복합니다 “Even if my heart hurts, just by watching from afar, I can give everything, I can love, so I am happy even if I am sad.” (십자가의 예수 그리스도)

71. (나 태어나 처음 가슴 떨리는 이런 사랑 또 없을테죠 몰래 감춰둔 오랜 기억속에) 단 하나의 사랑입니다  “It’s the one and only love.”

72. 운전하면서 들었기에, 어떤 부분은 잘 들리지 않아서 온전히 듣지 못하는 가운데, 저는 가사에 너무 감동을 받았습니다. I was deeply moved by the lyrics.

73. 그런 사랑 또 없다고 했습니다.  자신의 심장은 얼마든지 아파도 좋다고 했습니다… it says there is no such love and he wouldn’t mind being hurt. (예수님 아닙니까?) ^^

74. 그리고 단 하나의 사랑이라고 했습니다…. It says that it’s the one and only love.

75. 저는 ‘와, 이렇게 좋은 경배와 찬양곡이 있다니…’ 찬양을 부르는 분의 목소리도 참으로 좋아서… 저 자신이 아주 반해서…앞으로 이 곡을 열심히 연습해서 다음에 성도님들 모일 때 함께 불러야 되겠다… 라고 생각했습니다… I thought, “Wow, it’s such a beautiful praise song!” I was so into the song and thought we should sing this song in the service.

76. 그런데… (집에 와서 찾아 보고) 나중에 알게 된 것은 이 곡이 너무나 유명한 이승철이라는 가수의 ‘그런 사람 또 없습니다’라는 대중가요였던 것입니다. But I found out later that it was the popular song “There is no such person” by a well-known singer in Korea. 

77. 그러면서 속으로 생각했습니다. 어떻게 인간이 이런 고귀한 사랑을 할 수 있다는 말인가? Then I thought to myself, how can humans love such noble love?

78. 하고 싶지만 할 수 없는 것이 인간입니다. It is humans who want to but cannot do it.

79. 그러나 이렇게 실제로 하신 분이 계십니다.  그 분이 바로 예수 그리스도 이십니다. But there is someone who did it. It is none other than Jesus Christ.

80. 그런데 그 분이 그렇게 말씀하십니다.  내가 곧 길, 진리, 생명이라고… He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

81. 나를 말미암지 않고서는… 즉 주님은 자신을 의지하고, 붙잡고, 영접(람바노)하고, 주님 가신 그 길을 걸어 가라고 하십니다. “No one comes to the Father except through me.” The Lord says to rely on him, hold onto him, accept him, and walk on the path that he takes.

82. 그 분께 전 인류 모든 사람에게 필요한 길도, 진리를 통한 자유도, 영원한 생명도 다 있다고 말씀하십니다. He claims that in him there is the way, freedom through truth, and eternal life, which all of humanity needs.

 

83. 이제 몇 시간 후면 저희가 새해를 시작합니다. Now, we will be starting a new year soon.

84. 새해에 저희가 꼭 결심하기를 원합니다. Let us make a resolution in the new year.

85. 그리스도를 힘써 알기를 원합니다.  (그리스도를 알아야, 그리스도를 람바노, 즉 강하게 붙잡게 됩니다.)  어떻게 그리스도를 제대로 알 수 있을까요? Let us earnestly know Jesus Christ. How can we come to know Christ?

86. [요 5:39] 너희가 성경에서 영생을 얻는 줄 생각하고 성경을 연구하거니와 이 성경이 곧 내게 대하여 증언하는 것이니라 “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.” (John 5:39)

87. 그렇습니다.  성경안에 그리스도의 풍성함이 다 담겨져 있고, 길도, 생명도, 자유도 다 담겨져 있습니다. It is right. The richness of Christ is fully contained in the Scriptures, including the way, the truth, and the life.

88. 그래서 내년 일년 동안 성도님들께 꼭 숙제를 드리려고 합니다(이번 설교-하고 싶은 말이 너무나 많았다.  다 할 수 없어서 너무 안타까웠다). Therefore, I want to give you all an assignment for the coming year.

89. [그림] 일년에 1독을 하시든, 6년에 깊게 읽어서 일독을 하시든, 꼭 결심하기를 원합니다(성경 일독반 오늘 저녁에 소개). Whether you read the entire Bible in a year or several years, please make a resolution.

90. (지금부터 제가 예수 & 그리스도라는 표현을 어떻게 사용하는지 주의깊게 들어 보시기 바랍니다)

91. 그리스도 예수는 너무 넓고, 길고, 높고, 깊으신 분이라서 우리가 배워야 할 영역이 너무나 많습니다. Jesus Christ is so wide, long, high, and deep that there is so much for us to learn about him.

92. 그 그리스도 예수를 힘써 알아야 참된 주님의 제자가 될 수 있습니다. Only when we know him diligently can we become true disciples of Jesus Christ.

93. [과거, 현재, 미래] 2천년 전에 오신 그리스도를 중심으로 과거, 현재, 미래로 구분해서 읽기를 원합니다. With a focus on Jesus Christ who came 2,000 years ago, let us divide our reading into past, present, and future.

94. [과거] 구약에 나타난 그리스도를 우리가 철저하게 깨달을 때, 예수를 메시야로 인정하지 않는 이슬람권, 유대교인들에게 우리는 예수를 그리스도로 전할 수 있습니다. When we fully understand Jesus Christ revealed in the Old Testament, we can testify about Jesus Christ to those in the Islamic and Jewish communities who do not recognize Him as the Messiah.

95. 구약 수천년동안 수천번 이상 드렸던 그 수많은 제사들, 수많은 예언들을 우리가 읽고, 정리하고, 붙잡을 때 우리는 이슬람권의 분들께, 유대교 분들께 그리스도 예수를 증거할 수 있습니다. When we read and understand the meanings of the numerous sacrifices and prophecies in the Old Testament, we can testify Jesus Christ to the Muslims and the Jewish.

96. [현재] 신약 특히 복음서를 읽으면서 우리는 이 땅에 오신 예수 그리스도를 배우기를 원합니다. By reading the New Testament, especially the Gospels, we can learn about Jesus Christ who came to this earth.

97. 그 안에 우리가 따라야 할 스승으로서의 예수님을 향하여 제자로 나아갈 삶, 인격을 배우게 될 것입니다. We will learn about the life and character of Jesus Christ to be his disciples.

98. [미래] 그리고 미래의 그리스도 예수, 즉 다시 오실 그리스도 예수, 수없이 많이 예언된 그 내용을 중심으로 읽다 보면 여러분이 놀라실 것입니다. Also, you will be amazed when you focus on the future return of Christ Jesus, his second coming, as prophesied throughout the Bible.

99. 그만큼 그리스도 예수는 죽음을 넘어 부활로, 다시 오심을 강조하시고 계십니다. Christ Jesus emphasizes his resurrection beyond death and his coming again.

100.      그럴 때 우리는 육신의 죽음을 넘는 영생을 확신하게 되고 바르게 준비하게 될 것입니다. We can have the assurance of eternal life beyond death and be properly ready.

 

101.      그렇게 읽을 때… 저는 지난 주일 임마누엘 주님에 관한 말씀을 들으며 한번 더  깨달았습니다. I once again realized while listening to the sermon about Emmanuel last Sunday.

102.      Come and Go는 우리 교회 표어이기도 합니다. “Come and Go” is our church motto.

103.      그런데 예수님께서 오라, 내가 함께 하겠다고 하심에 감사 했습니다. I was thankful when Jesus said, “Come, and I will be with you.”

104.      [마 28:20] 그런데 예수님은 가라 하시면서 마태복음 마지막 장 마지막 절에 내가 세상 끝날 까지 함께 하시겠다고 하셨습니다. While Jesus said to go, he also said in the last verse of the last chapter of the Gospel of Matthew that he would be with us until the end of the age.

105.      이제 몇 시간 후면 새로 시작하는 새해, 매일 주님을 힘써 하시고, 주님을 의지하시고, 나아갈 때, 그런 우리와 함께 366일을 함께 하실 줄 믿습니다. With the new year beginning soon, I believe that the Lord will be with us for the next 365 days as we earnestly seek him and rely on him.
