구름 사이로 비추이는 무지개를 봅시다.

“내가 구름으로 땅을 덮을 때에 무지개가 구름 속에 나타나면 내가 나와 너희와 및 육체를 가진 모든 생물 사이의 내 언약을 기억하리니 다시는 물이 모든 육체를 멸하는 홍수가 되지 아니할지라”(창 9:14-15)

살면서 지칠 때가 있습니다.  정치의 영역을 볼 때 계속 끝없는 자기 주장과 당리당략 추구, 끝없는 대립의 모습을 보며 지칠 때가 많습니다.  경제는 여전히 불공정과 불이익이 존재하는 것 같고, 물질만, 외형만 최고라는 현세 문화가 이 세상을 주도하는 듯 합니다.

기성 세대의 눈에 보이는 자녀 세대, 미래 세대의 삶은 불안하게만 보입니다.  그러면서도 더 큰 어려움은 실제적인 대안을 기성 세대도 온전히 갖고 있지 않는 듯 하기에 내면 깊숙한 곳에 있는 묵직한 불안감을 감추기가 어렵습니다.

노아 홍수 후 모든 것이 진멸되었습니다.  아무 것도 남지 않게 되었습니다.  허탈과 허망함, 걱정과 두려움, 염려와 불안만 엄습해 오는 상황이었습니다.  절망과 좌절은 인간이 갖고 있는 모든 가능성과 능력에 대한 기대를 꺽게 합니다.

그러나 흘러 넘치는 하나님의 신실하심은 ‘어떤 상황’에서도 멈추지 않습니다.  좌절하지 않습니다.  중단하지 않습니다.  반드시 약속하신 말씀을 지키십니다.  그리고 성취하십니다.  그 증표로 무지개를 주셨습니다(창 9:14-15).

살면서 구름이 많이 보이는 상황이 되셔도…

구름 뒤에, 구름 위에 찬란한 태양이 엄연히 존재하고, 빛나듯이…

그 구름과 햇빛의 공존을 통해 보여지는 무지개를 바라보시면서…

언약을 반드시 성취하시는 하나님을 바라보고, 의지합시다!

(Lent Day 7)

Let's look at the rainbow shining through the clouds.

“When I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.” (Genesis 9:14-15)

There are times in life when we feel weary. Observing the realm of politics, we often grow tired of the endless self-assertion, pursuit of party interests, and ceaseless opposition. The economy still seems rife with unfairness and disadvantages, and the materialistic, superficial culture of the present age appears to dominate the world.

To the older generation, the lives of the younger and future generations seem fraught with uncertainty. Moreover, the deeper issue is that it appears even the older generation does not fully possess practical alternatives, making it difficult to hide the profound anxiety that resides deep within.

After Noah's flood, everything was obliterated. Nothing was left. It was a situation overwhelmed by emptiness and vanity, worry and fear, concern and anxiety. Despair and frustration crush all expectations of human potential and capability.

However, God's overflowing faithfulness does not stop in 'any situation'. It does not get discouraged. It does not halt. He always keeps His promises. And He fulfills them. He gave us the rainbow as a sign (Genesis 9:14-15).

Even when you find yourself in situations where clouds are all you see...

Just as the brilliant sun exists undeniably behind and above those clouds, shining brightly...

Looking at the rainbow that appears through the coexistence of those clouds and the sun...

Let's look upon and rely on God, who will surely fulfill His covenant!
