(사순절 20일째)

떠남과 내려놓음

“여호와께서 아브람에게 이르시되 너는 너의 고향과 친척과 아버지의 집을 떠나 내가 네게 보여 줄 땅으로 가라 내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루고 네게 복을 주어 네 이름을 창대하게 하리니 너는 복이 될지라”(창세기 12:1-2)

지금까지 사순절은 너무나도 많이 죄책감과 회개에 지배되어 있었습니다.  죄에 대한 깨어 있음, 돌아봄, 회개 등도 신앙의 여정에서 반드시 필요합니다.  그러나 십자가 바라보며 묵상할 때, 떠남과 내려놓음이 소극적, 부정적 의미만이 아님을 묵상하게 됩니다.

십자가는 하나님께서 준비하시고 계신 미래로의 문을 열고 나아가는 출발점입니다.  사순절의 끝이 그냥 십자가 죽음으로 끝이 나는 것이 아니라, 생명의 부활절로 인도함 받는 소망의 출발인 것입니다. 

우리의 삶에서 내가 붙잡고 있는 것을 내려 놓을 때, 내가 안주하고 있는 곳을 떠날 때, 하나님께서 준비하고 계신 것을 받을 수 있는 기회, 하나님께서 기다리고 계시는 새로운 영역을 향하여 나아갈 수 있는 출발이 되는 것입니다.

아브람은 목숨과도 같은 고향과 친척과 아버지의 집을 떠났습니다.  그 결과 큰 민족으로의 출발, 다른 민족을 축복하는 복 자체가 되었습니다.   떠났기 때문에 만난 것입니다.  내려 놓았기 때문에 받게 된 것입니다.

그런 기대와 소망으로 사순절의 절반을 넘어 이제 후반기로 나아 가는 이 순례 여행을 계속 진행하시지 않으시렵니까?

Departure and Letting Go

"The LORD had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.'" (Genesis 12:1-2)

So far, Lent has been too dominated by guilt and repentance. Awareness of sin, reflection, and repentance are certainly necessary in the journey of faith. However, when we meditate while looking at the cross, we realize that departure and letting go have not only passive or negative meanings.

The cross is the starting point for opening the door to the future prepared by God. The end of Lent is not just the death on the cross but the beginning of hope leading to the Resurrection of life.

When we let go of what we are holding onto in our lives, when we leave the place where we have settled, it becomes the start of a journey toward the new realms that God has prepared and is waiting for us.

Abram left his homeland, relatives, and father's house, which were as dear to him as life itself. As a result, he embarked on becoming a great nation, becoming a blessing that would bless other nations. It was because he left that he encountered; it was because he let go that he received.
