돈 없이 사라

“오호라 너희 목마른 자들아 물로 나아오라 돈 없는 자도 오라 너희는 와서 사 먹되 돈 없이, 값없이 와서 포도주와 젖을 사라”(이사야 55:1)

이 구절을 읽으면서 모순을 발견하게 됩니다.  돈 없이 물건을 받는 것은 공짜라는 뜻입니다.  공짜는 아무런 지불없이 그냥 받는 것을 말합니다.  

그런데 본문에는 ‘와서 사 먹되 돈 없이…’라고 되어 있습니다.  돈 없이 그냥 공짜로 받는 것이라면 ‘사는 것’이 아니라 ‘거저 받는 것’이 되어야 할 것입니다.

그런데 ‘값없이 사라’라고 말합니다.  뭔가 모순되게 보입니다.  그런데 이것이 구원임을 기억할 때 은혜가 됩니다.  우리는 구원을 공짜로 받았지만, 그리스도께서는 자신의 피 값을 지불하시고 우리에게 공짜로 주셨습니다.  그래서 공짜가 아니지만, 공짜가 되었습니다.

그리스도께서 자신의 피 값으로 사셨기에 산 것이고, 그러면서도 우리에게는 거저 주셨기에 돈 없이 받게 된 것입니다.  이 구원은 세상에서 가장 비싼 것인 동시에, 거저 주신 공짜 입니다.  

이 모순을 이해했을 때, 우리는 감사하면서도, 부끄럽기도 하고, 황송하기도 하면서, 말로 표현할 수 없는 기쁨을 누리게 됩니다.

‘공짜로 사서 주신 구원’은 이 세상에서 가장 값지고도, 소중한 사랑입니다. 

남은 사순절 기간 동안, 이 ‘공짜로 사서 주신 사랑’을 더 많이, 더 진하게 묵상하시기 바랍니다.

Buying Without Money

"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you without money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost." (Isaiah 55:1)

Reading this passage, we encounter a paradox. Receiving goods without money means getting them for free. Free means receiving something without any payment.

Yet, the text says, "come, buy and eat without money..." If it's truly received for free without money, it shouldn't be termed 'buying' but 'receiving without cost.'

But it says, "buy without cost." It seems contradictory. However, this becomes a grace when we remember it speaks of salvation. We have received salvation for free, but Christ paid with His blood to give it to us freely. So, it's not free in one sense, but it has become free to us.

Christ bought us with the price of His blood, making it a purchase. Yet, it was given to us without cost, making it free for us. This salvation is the most expensive thing in the world, yet it is given to us freely.

Understanding this paradox, we are filled with gratitude, shame, awe, and an indescribable joy.

The salvation "bought for us freely" is the most valuable and precious love in this world.

During the remaining Lenten period, I encourage you to deeply meditate more on this "love bought for us freely."
