June 19, July 4, August 15. Does anyone know the significance of these days? 

6월 19일, 7월 4일, 8월 15일. 이 날들의 의미를 아는 분이 있나요? 

 

June 19, 1865 or Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery for Black Americans. 

1865년 6월 19일 또는 6월 18일은 미국 흑인 노예제도의 종식을 기념하는 날입니다. 

 

July 4, 1776 is the day that the colonies declared independence from England. 

1776년 7월 4일은 식민지들이 영국으로부터 독립을 선언한 날입니다. 

 

August 15, 1945 is the liberation day for Korea from Japan. 

1945년 8월 15일은 한국이 일본으로부터 해방된 날입니다. 

 

These are just a handful of days across the world that signify freedom from different countries or people groups. 

이 날들은 전 세계적으로 다양한 국가 또는 집단으로부터의 자유를 상징하는 몇 안 되는 날입니다. 

 

We celebrate and value freedom as we have seen the dark consequences from when we see ourselves or others held captive by another. 

우리 자신이나 다른 사람이 다른 사람에게 포로로 잡혀 있을 때의 어두운 결과를 보았기에 우리는 자유를 축하하고 소중히 여깁니다. 

 

And as we have the Holy Spirit in us and with us, there is freedom that we have from the chains of sin. 

그리고 성령이 우리 안에 계시고 우리와 함께 하시기 때문에 우리는 죄의 사슬에서 벗어난 자유를 누리고 있습니다.

 

So As we go into a time of praise, let us reflect and remember the freedom that God has given to us through Christ as we sing. 

그러니 찬양의 시간으로 들어가면서 하나님께서 그리스도를 통해 우리에게 주신 자유를 노래하면서 묵상하고 기억해 봅시다. 

 

 

Today’s Passage: Exodus 12:25-27

25 When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. 

너희는 여호와께서 허락하신대로 너희에게 주시는 땅에 이를 때에 이 예식을 지킬 것이라

 

26 And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ 

이 후에 너희 자녀가 묻기를 이 예식이 무슨 뜻이냐 ? 하거든

 

27 then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.

너희는 이르기를 이는 여호와의 유월절 제사라 여호와께서 애굽 사람을 치실 때에 애굽에 있는 이스라엘 자손의 집을 넘으사 우리의 집을 구원하셨느니라 하라' 하매 백성이 머리 숙여 경배하니라

 

Title: Remembering Freedom through Passover

 

Yesterday, Pastor Bae started off the service by discussing the importance of Passover.  

어제 배목사님께서 유월절의 중요성에 대해 이야기하며 예배를 시작했습니다.  

 

Two days before Jesus would have the Last Supper with his disciples, the Pharisees schemed to kidnap and kill Jesus. 

예수님이 제자들과 최후의 만찬을 하기 이틀 전, 바리새인들은 예수님을 납치해 죽이려는 음모를 꾸몄습니다. 

 

But they had to wait due to the reaction from the people if they would do this during such a reflective and celebratory time. 

그러나 그들은 성찰과 축하의 시간에 이런 일을 벌일 경우 사람들의 반응 때문에 기다릴 수밖에 없었습니다. 

 

Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread was a sacred time for the Jewish people.

유월절과 무교절은 유대인들에게 신성한 절기였습니다.

 

They were commanded to remember the sacrifice of the lamb, how it spared them from the death of their firstborns, and how they hurried out of Egypt for freedom.

그들은 어린 양의 희생과 그 희생으로 장자의 죽음으로부터 그들을 구해준 일, 그리고 자유를 위해 서둘러 이집트에서 탈출한 일을 기억하라는 명령을 받았습니다. 

 

It is no coincidence that Jesus would choose Passover and the Festival to share his last moments with his disciples. 

예수님께서 제자들과 마지막 순간을 함께하기 위해 유월절과 축제를 선택하신 것은 우연이 아닙니다. 

 

The significance of Passover and the resulting freedom would set a backdrop for the eventual freedom that Jesus would give them from the hands of sin and death. 

유월절의 의미와 그로 인한 자유는 예수님께서 제자들에게 죄와 죽음의 손에서 벗어나게 해 주실 궁극적인 자유의 배경이 될 것입니다. 

 

Jesus would be both the sacrificial lamb that would save his people as he is slain to cover the consequences of sin and death. 

예수님은 죄와 죽음의 결과를 덮기 위해 죽임으로써 그의 백성을 구원할 희생양인 동시에 희생양이 되실 것입니다. 

 

The unleavened bread signifying freedom would point to a greater bread, the body of Christ that signifies the ultimate freedom from the greatest of enemies. 

자유를 상징하는 무교병은 더 큰 빵, 즉 가장 큰 적으로부터의 궁극적인 자유를 상징하는 그리스도의 몸을 가리킬 것입니다. 

 

The wine of the passover meals that would signify the promises of God of freedom and redemption would point to a greater wine, the blood of Christ that fulfills those promises through the New Covenant.

자유와 구속에 대한 하나님의 약속을 상징하는 유월절 식사의 포도주는 새 언약을 통해 그 약속을 성취하는 더 큰 포도주, 즉 그리스도의 피를 가리킵니다

 

The heart of God throughout the scriptures is one of freedom and liberation whether from the oppressive reign of others or the consequences of the sins that we still struggle with. 

경전 전체에 걸쳐 하나님의 마음은 타인의 억압적인 통치로부터든 우리가 여전히 투쟁하고 있는 죄의 결과로부터든 자유와 해방입니다. 

 

So as we wait for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection, remember and recall the freedom that Christ points to in his last supper, for Passover. 

따라서 그리스도의 부활을 기념하는 유월절을 기다리며 그리스도께서 최후의 만찬에서 가리키신 자유를 기억하고 되새겨 보세요. 

 

That though we mourn the sins that we personally and communally commit, whether through not doing what we should do or doing what we shouldn’t do, 

해야 할 일을 하지 않거나 하지 말아야 할 일을 함으로써 개인적으로나 공동체적으로 저지른 죄에 대해 애통해합니다, 

 

May we be like Paul in Romans 7 who can ultimately declare our thankfulness to God who delivers us through Christ! 

로마서 7장의 바울처럼 궁극적으로 그리스도를 통해 우리를 구원해 주신 하나님께 감사를 선포할 수 있는 우리가 되기를 바랍니다! 

 

The freedom that led us from captivity of sin to the captivity of Christ is a glorious one, and let it be one that we remember each day. 

우리를 죄의 포로에서 그리스도의 포로로 인도한 자유는 영광스러운 자유이며, 우리가 매일 기억하는 자유가 되게 하소서. 

 

Let it be the hope that we cling onto on the days when sin seems so strong and we so weak. 

죄가 너무 강하고 우리가 너무 약해 보이는 날에 우리가 붙잡는 희망이 되게 하소서. 

 

The promise of freedom is fulfilled now though we wait for the day when it is ultimately fulfilled and seen all through the earth and in the Kingdom of Heaven. 

자유의 약속은 궁극적으로 성취되어 이 땅과 천국에서 모두 보게 될 날을 기다리지만, 지금은 성취되어 있습니다. 

 

As we close with a song of praise, let’s again sing with the freedom that we have been given through Christ. 

찬양의 노래로 마무리하면서, 그리스도를 통해 우리에게 주어진 자유를 다시 한 번 노래합시다. 

 

 

Now, we will take some time to reflect and pray. But as we pray, remember what Pastor Bae preached last night. 

이제 잠시 묵상하고 기도하는 시간을 갖겠습니다. 그러나 기도할 때 어젯밤 배 목사님이 설교하신 내용을 기억합시다. 

 

When we reflect on ourselves, we must have Christ at the center of it all and as the only standard of reflection. 

우리 자신을 성찰할 때, 그 중심에 그리스도가 있어야 하고, 그분이 유일한 성찰의 기준이 되어야 합니다. 

 

The first prayer topic is for freedom from sin in our lives 

첫 번째 기도 제목은 우리 삶에서 죄로부터의 자유를 위한 기도입니다. 

 

Galatians 5:1 says, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

갈라디아서 5장 1절은 "그리스도께서 우리를 자유케 하려고 자유를 주셨으니 그러므로 굳건히 서서 다시는 종의 멍에를 메지 말라"고 말씀합니다.

 

Is there sin in your lives that you have struggled with for a long time? 

여러분의 삶에서 오랫동안 힘들어하는 죄가 있나요? 

 

Is it difficult to believe that you can be free from such sins in this life? 

이 세상에서 그런 죄로부터 자유로워질 수 있다고 믿기 어렵나요? 

 

This freedom is only possible through God so let us have faith as we pray for God to give us freedom from these things and delight in our freedom with him. 

이 자유는 오직 하나님을 통해서만 가능하므로, 하나님께서 우리에게 이러한 것들로부터 자유를 주시도록 기도하고 그분과 함께 자유를 기뻐하는 믿음을 갖도록 합시다. 

 

The second prayer topic is for the church to help others be free

두 번째 기도 주제는 교회가 다른 사람들의 자유를 위해 기도하는 것입니다.

 

Galatians 5:13 states “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

갈라디아서 5장 13절은 "형제 여러분, 여러분은 자유를 위해 부르심을 받았습니다. 여러분은 자유를 육체를 위한 기회로 삼지 말고 사랑으로 서로 섬기십시오."

 

As we receive freedom from God, we are called to serve others in love

하나님으로부터 자유를 받은 우리는 사랑으로 다른 사람들을 섬기도록 부름받았습니다.

 

There are many people who we know that need freedom in many ways 

우리 주변에는 여러 가지 면에서 자유가 필요한 사람들이 많이 있습니다. 

 

So let’s pray that we would be like Christ to them and seek to aid them through pointing them through freedom in God alone. 

그러므로 우리가 그들에게 그리스도와 같은 존재가 되어 오직 하나님 안에서의 자유를 안내함으로써 그들을 도울 수 있기를 기도합시다. 

 

Dear God, we thank you for this day 

 

We thank you that whenever freedom is mentioned in the scriptures, you are there. 

 

May we live into the freedom that you give us through Christ as you adopt us as your sons and daughters 

 

May you always remind us this good news and show us that your way is better than what we plan or desire 

 

Give us faith and hope to believe that you and you alone can set us free from all things. 

 

We thank you for all things, and in your Son’s name we pray.
