어제 본문인 사도행전 9장 전반부는 사도바울의 인생 방향 대전환의 사건을 다룹니다.  자신은 바른 길 가고 있다고 생각하고, 가장 열정적으로 살았지만, 실은 그의 삶은 고속도로에서 역주행하는 것과 같은 가장 위험한 삶을 살았던 것입니다.

그가 정주행을 하게 된 것은 예수님을 만났기 때문입니다.  '길이요, 진리요, 생명이신' 예수를 '주와 그리스도'로 만나게 되었을 때, 바울의 삶은 역주행에서 정주행으로 방향 대 전환을 하게 됩니다.

그러나 여기서 중요한 것은 새로운 삶으로 인한 삶의 어렵고도 놀라운 상황을 맞이하게 된다는 사실입니다.

첫째, 엄청난 핍박을 받습니다(19-25).  그동안 자신과 함께 했던 사람들이 다 떠나고, 자신을 핍박하기 시작합니다.  외롭습니다.  왕따 당한 느낌입니다.  그러나 그 핍박은 바르게 걸어 갔기 때문에 맞이하게 된 '좁은 길'일 따름입니다.  좁아도, 외로워도, 핍박이 있어도 바른 길 걸어가야 합니다.

둘째, 동역자를 얻게 됩니다(26-30).  바나바를 통해, 다른 제자들을 통해 바울은 외로움도, 핍박도 이겨 냅니다.  그런데 그 동역자들은 참된 신앙을 같이하는 동역자들입니다.  그들은 죽음을 넘어 부활의 산 소망을 갖고 있는 자들이기에 담대합니다.  순수합니다.  강력합니다.  교회는 이러한 동역자들의 모임이어야 강력하고, 순수한 공동체가 됩니다.

셋째, 이런 상황 가운데에서도 신앙 공동체는 성장합니다(31).  왜냐하면 참된 질적 순수함과 바름과 강력함을 가질 때, 지역적으로도, 양적으로도 건강한 성장, 진정한 성숙으로 나아가게 됩니다.  교회의 성장은 이러한 원리 위에 진행되어야 한다고 믿습니다.

나는 오늘도 정방향으로 나아가고 있습니까?

핍박도 있지만, 주님이 함께 하시고, 신앙 동역자도 있어서 외롭지 않습니다.

그리고 신앙 공동체는 이를 통해 참된 성장 함을 기억하며...

[Daily Devotional 366 / Acts 20] Acts 9:19b-31 (052024) "Situations We Encounter When We Move in the Right Direction..."

The first half of Acts 9, covered yesterday, deals with the dramatic turning point in Apostle Paul's life direction. Paul believed he was on the right path and lived with great zeal, but in reality, his life was akin to driving the wrong way on a highway—dangerously misguided.

Paul began to move in the right direction because he encountered Jesus. When he met Jesus as "the way, the truth, and the life," and recognized Him as "Lord and Christ," Paul's life underwent a radical change from going the wrong way to the right way.

However, it’s important to note that this new direction brought challenging and remarkable situations.

First, he faced tremendous persecution (19-25). Those who were once his companions abandoned him and started persecuting him. He felt lonely, ostracized. But this persecution was merely the "narrow path" that he had to walk because he was now on the right path. Even if it’s narrow, lonely, or persecuted, we must continue on the right path.

Second, he gained fellow workers (26-30). Through Barnabas and other disciples, Paul overcame loneliness and persecution. These fellow workers shared a true faith. They had the living hope of resurrection beyond death, which made them bold, pure, and powerful. The church must be a gathering of such fellow workers to be a strong and pure community.

Third, despite these challenges, the faith community grew (31). True qualitative purity, righteousness, and strength lead to healthy growth both regionally and numerically, resulting in genuine maturity. I believe that church growth should proceed based on these principles.

Am I moving in the right direction today?

Despite persecution, the Lord is with me, and I have fellow believers, so I am not lonely.

And through this, the faith community grows truly.
