(데살로니가후서 1:1-12) 부르심에 합당한 자

(데살로니가후서 1:1-12)

“너희를 그 부르심에 합당한 자로 여기시고…”(11)

데살로니가 전서에 이어 데살로니가 후서를 사도 바울은 기록합니다.  학자들의 추정에 의하면 전서와 후서의 내용에 큰 변화가 없고, 주님의 재림에 대한 성경적 관점의 정리와 나눔이 주된 내용이기에 그 시간적 간격이 크지 않고 수개월 혹은 1년 미만이라고 여겨집니다.

이는 데살로니가 성도님들을 향한 바울의 간절한 마음을 볼 수 있는 장면이기도 합니다.  한번의 편지로 자신의 책임을 다 했다는 자세가 아니라, 한 번 더 마음을 다해 전달하고, 강조함으로서 데살로니가 성도님들이 올바른 재림관을 정립하기를 바라는 바울의 간절한 마음이 담겨져 있습니다.

그래서 은혜와 평강의 인사로 시작하고(1-2), 믿음과 사랑과 소망의 인내로 격려하며(3-5), 잘못된 원리로 핍박하는 자들을 향한 하나님의 심판이 있음을 강력하게 격려하며(5-10), 그리고 부르신 소명을 기억하고 끝까지 충성 다 할 때 하나님의 영광이 임하게 됨을 기억하라고 격려합니다(11-12).

모든 성도에게는 ‘제자되어, 제자삼는’(마 28:19-20) 사명이 있고, 각 개인에게 은사 따라 다르게 주신 ‘소명’이 있습니다.  이 사명과 소명에 충성 다 할 때, 하나님의 영광에 함께 동참하게 되는 참으로 귀한 영광의 상황을 맞이하게 됩니다(12).

오늘 주일 예배를 통하여 그 영광을 맘껏 누리시고, 

그 영광에 맘껏 동참하심으로, 

맘껏 그 영광을 삶의 현장에서 맘껏 나누시는,

‘복의 통로’가 되시는 귀한 한 주간 되시기를 간절히 기원합니다.

(2 Thessalonians 1:1–12)

“…that our God may make you worthy of his calling…” (v. 11)

Following his first letter, the Apostle Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians. Scholars generally agree that since there is little change in content between the two letters, and because the main focus is a clearer explanation and sharing of the biblical perspective on the Lord’s return, the time gap between the two is not large—likely only a few months or less than a year.

This also shows Paul’s earnest heart toward the believers in Thessalonica. Rather than having the attitude that one letter was enough to fulfill his responsibility, Paul wrote again with deep concern, repeating and emphasizing his message so that the Thessalonian believers might firmly establish a proper understanding of Christ’s return.

Thus, the letter begins with a greeting of grace and peace (vv. 1–2), encourages them for their faith, love, and steadfast hope (vv. 3–5), strongly assures them that God will bring judgment on those who persecute them unjustly (vv. 5–10), and reminds them to remain faithful to their calling so that the glory of God may be revealed in them (vv. 11–12).

Every believer has the mission of “being a disciple and making disciples” (Matt. 28:19–20), and each person also has a unique “calling” given according to their spiritual gifts. When we faithfully fulfill this mission and calling, we enter into the precious reality of sharing in the glory of God (v. 12).

Through today’s Sunday worship, may you fully experience that glory,

wholeheartedly participate in that glory,

and generously share that glory in every place of life,

becoming a true “channel of blessing.”
