(이사야 11:1-16)

이사야 서에 자주 등장하는 ‘남은 자’ 사상이 오늘 본문에도 등장합니다(11, 16).  남은 자는 언약의 주체이신 예수 그리스도를 믿는 자를 말합니다.  그래서 남은 자의 핵심 신앙 내용은 예수 그리스도입니다.

성경을 전체적으로 읽어 보면 구약에도 예수 그리스도가 분명하게 등장함을 깨닫게 됩니다.  오늘 본문에는 특별히 예수 그리스도에 대한 내용이 장 전체에 계속 등장합니다.  

그 분은 열매이시고(1), 그의 위에 지혜의 영이 강림하시고(2), 여호와를 경외하며(3), 공의로 심판하시고(4-5), 참 평화를 이룩하실 것입니다(6-9).  열방을 이끄시며(10-15), 참 해방과 자유를 주실 것입니다(16).

선지서는 시가서와 함께 본문의 핵심 내용을 파악했다면, 반복해서 읽어야 합니다.  시를 한번 읽지 않고, 반복해서 읽을 때 더 깊게, 더 본질을 뼈속까지 맛보게 되듯이 시가서와 선지서는 그렇게 읽어야 합니다.

씹으면 씹을 수록 더 진액이 나오게 되는 고급 요리처럼 오늘 본문은 더 반복해서 읽을 수록 더 깊은 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 능력을 체험하게 됩니다.  예수는 넓고, 영원하고, 높고, 깊은 그 정도가 무한하기 때문입니다(엡 3:18-19).

오늘 이사야 11장을 계속 맛 보시기 바랍니다.

(Isaiah 11:1–16)

The theme of the "remnant" appears again in today's passage, as it does throughout the book of Isaiah (vv. 11, 16). The remnant refers to those who believe in Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of God's covenant. Therefore, the heart of the remnant's faith is Jesus Christ Himself.

As we read the Bible as a whole, we discover that Jesus Christ is clearly revealed even in the Old Testament. In today's chapter, the entire passage points us to Him.

He is the Branch who bears fruit (v. 1). The Spirit of wisdom will rest upon Him (v. 2). He delights in the fear of the Lord (v. 3). He will judge with righteousness (vv. 4–5), establish true peace (vv. 6–9), gather the nations to Himself (vv. 10–15), and bring true deliverance and freedom to His people (v. 16).

Once we grasp the central message of a passage, especially in the poetic books and the prophets, we should read it again and again. Just as a poem reveals greater beauty and depth through repeated reading, so the poetic and prophetic books of Scripture unfold their riches the more we meditate on them.

Like a fine meal that releases deeper flavor with every bite, Isaiah 11 becomes richer each time we read it. The more we meditate on it, the more we experience the grace and power of Jesus Christ. This is because the greatness of Christ is immeasurable—His love is infinitely wide, long, high, and deep (Ephesians 3:18–19).
