(이사야 16:1-14)

모압은 강력한 나라입니다.  그러나 그 어떤 나라도 영원할 수 없습니다.  죄성에 의한 내적 한계를 가지며, 외적 능력도 영원하지 못합니다.  그 대표적인 나라가 모압입니다.

모압의 결말은 매우 처절합니다(2).  보금자리에서 쫓겨난 새와 같이 모압 여인들은 환난을 피해 떠도는 처참한 상황을 맞습니다.  

그러나 더 심각한 것은 이런 통곡의 상황 속에서도 자기 중심적인 교만과 아집에서 헤어 나오지 못한다는 사실입니다(6-10).    

살면서 모압 같이 아집과 교만에 사로잡힐 때가 있습니다.  나 자신을 솔직하게 돌아 보아야 합니다.  죄성은 그만큼 자기 주관과 고집에 빠지게 만들기에 처절하게 ‘나 중심적인 삶과 자세’를 갖고 있지 않나 스스로 살펴 보아야 합니다.

하나님을 인정하지 않는 ‘나 중심적 자세’는 결국 이기적 자세를 갖게 만들고, 그 결과 이 땅에 또 다른 바벨탑을 쌓게 됩니다.  하나님의 강력한 심판이 있음을 기억해야 합니다(14).

이러한 죄를 향한 유일한 해결책은 공의와 인자하심으로 충실하게 판결하심으로 의를 신속하게 행하시는 예수 그리스도의 십자가 보혈을 의지하는 길 외에는 없습니다(5).

오늘 나 중심적이지 않는지… 하나님의 심판의 경고를 무시하지 않는지… 오직 예수 그리스도의 보혈만을 의지하는지… 진심으로, 진실하게 나 자신을 돌아보는 하루가 되기를 소망합니다.

그리고 만나는 모든 사람들을 향하여 오직 예수 그리스도의 십자가 공의와 인자의 충실함으로 다가가는 예수님의 제자로, 사도로 살아가기를 간절히 소망합니다.

Moab was a powerful nation. Yet no nation lasts forever. Every nation has an internal limitation because of its sinful nature, and its external strength is never eternal. Moab is a clear example of this.

The end of Moab is utterly devastating (v. 2). Like birds driven from their nests, the women of Moab become helpless refugees, wandering in search of safety from disaster.

What is even more tragic, however, is that even in the midst of such overwhelming sorrow and lament, they cannot break free from their self-centered pride and stubbornness (vv. 6–10).

There are times when we, like Moab, become trapped by pride and stubbornness. We need to examine ourselves honestly. Our sinful nature easily draws us into self-will and self-reliance, so we must carefully ask whether we are living with a deeply self-centered attitude.

A self-centered heart that refuses to acknowledge God ultimately leads to selfishness, and in the end, it builds yet another Tower of Babel on this earth. We must remember that God's righteous judgment is certain (v. 14).

The only solution to this sin is to rely on the precious blood of Jesus Christ, who faithfully upholds justice and steadfast love and swiftly establishes righteousness (v. 5). There is no other way.

Today, may we sincerely examine ourselves: Am I living in a self-centered way? Am I ignoring God's warning of judgment? Am I relying on nothing but the precious blood of Jesus Christ?

I also earnestly pray that we will live as disciples and apostles of Jesus Christ, approaching every person we meet with the same justice, steadfast love, and faithfulness that are perfectly revealed through His cross.
