(사사기 1:22-36)
오늘 본문에는 가나안을 점령하는 몇가지 중요한 원리와 자세를 가르쳐 줍니다.
1) 임재와 인도-명령과 약속은 믿음의 순종과 실천을 통해 현실화 됩니다. 순종할 때 약속하신 하나님은 함께 하십니다(22). 이것이 신앙인이 이 땅에서 하나님 나라 건설하는 원리입니다.
2) 신중-요셉 가문(에브라임과 므낫세 지파)은 벧엘을 칠 때 여리고 성에 정탐군을 보냈듯이 신중하게 정탐군을 보내고, 그로 인해 지혜롭게 벧엘(루스)을 점령합니다(22-24). 이 때 도움을 줌으로 가족들과 함께 살게 된 벧엘 사람은 헷 사람들의 땅에 가서 자신의 새로운 거주지를 개척하고 그 성 이름을 루스(벧엘)라 합니다(26). 이 사람은 여리고 성의 라합과 같이 참된 구원의 길, 능력의 길을 이방인으로서 깨달았던 사람이었습니다.
3) 철저한 순종-므낫세 족속은 주어진 땅을 정복하지만, 주민들을 완전히 쫓아내지 못합니다. 철병거 등으로 인해 완전 정복이 어려울 수 있지만, 그로 인해 가나안 족속이 계속 그 땅에 살게 됩니다(27). 그러자 같이 살게 되는 결과를 맞게 됩니다(28). 그러자 아셀 족속의 경우 오히려 가나안 족속에게 지배 당하는 모습을 보여 주며(32), 단 자손의 경우는 아모리 족속에 의해 산지까지 쫓겨나는 상황이 됩니다(34).
오늘도 하나님 나라 건설은 삶의 모든 영역에서, 모든 상황에서 계속 되어야 합니다. 신중한 자세와 함께 타협하거나 변질되지 않는 철저한 순종으로 나아갑시다. 그리고 기억합시다.

Today’s passage teaches us several important principles and attitudes for taking possession of Canaan.
1) God’s Presence and Guidance
God’s commands and promises become reality through our obedience and faithful action. When we obey, the God who has promised to be with us is indeed with us (v. 22). This is the fundamental principle by which believers build the Kingdom of God on this earth.
2) Wisdom and Prudence
When the house of Joseph—the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh—went up against Bethel, they acted carefully. Just as spies had been sent to Jericho, they sent spies to Bethel and, through this wise approach, were able to capture Bethel, formerly known as Luz (vv. 22–24).
The man from Bethel who helped them was allowed to live with his family. He went to the land of the Hittites, established a new place to live, and named the city Luz, the same name as Bethel (v. 26).
Like Rahab of Jericho, this man was a Gentile who recognized the true way of salvation and the way of God’s power.
3) Thorough and Complete Obedience
The tribe of Manasseh took possession of the land that had been given to them, but they did not completely drive out its inhabitants. Although complete conquest may have seemed difficult because of obstacles such as iron chariots, the result was that the Canaanites continued to live in the land (v. 27).
Eventually, this led to the Israelites living together with the Canaanites (v. 28). In the case of the tribe of Asher, they even came under the control of the Canaanites (v. 32). The tribe of Dan, meanwhile, was driven back into the hill country by the Amorites (v. 34).
Even today, the work of building the Kingdom of God must continue in every area of our lives and in every circumstance.
Let us move forward with wisdom and prudence, but at the same time with thorough and uncompromising obedience—without compromise or allowing our faith to become distorted.
