[말씀묵상 366 / 사도행전 26] 행 11:19-30 (052624) "나는 어떤 호칭으로 불리우시기 원하십니까?"

저는 목사입니다.  그런데 저의 묘비명에는 '목사 배헌석'이라고 쓰기를 원치 않는다고 제가 섬기는 교회 성도님들께, 또 아는 분들께 가끔씩 말씀 드리곤 합니다.  왜냐하면 세상에서 가장 소중한, 중요한, 존귀한 호칭이 바로 '그리스도인'이라는 호칭이라고 믿기 때문입니다.  그래서 저는 '성도 배헌석'으로 혹시 저의 묘비명이 쓰여지게 된다면 그렇게 쓰여지기를 원합니다.  아니, 묘비명에만 아니라... 사람들이 저를 생각할 때, 가장 먼저 '그 사람은 그리스도인이야...'라고 생각되어 지기를 원합니다.

안디옥 교회 성도님들은 스스로를 그리스도인으로 부르지 않았습니다.  '비로소 그리스도인이라 일컬음을 받게 되었더라'(26)는 표현을 통해, 스스로가 아니라, 지역 사람들이 그렇게 불렀음을 알  수 있습니다.  진정한 호칭은 주위 사람들이 그 당사자를 생각할 때 가장 잘 어울리고, 인정할 수 있는 그런 호칭이 될 때, 그래서 사람들이 그렇게 불러 줄 때 참된 의미가 있다고 믿습니다.

왜 '그리스도인'이라는 호칭이 중요할까요?  그것은 '그리스도'안에 참된 능력이 있기 때문입니다.

- 그리스도인들은 환난으로 인해 오히려 더 넓게, 강력하게 하나님 나라 전파합니다(19-21).  부활의 산 믿음과 능력이 있기에...

- 그리스도인들은 교회가 달라도 서로 협력하며, 연합하고, 돕습니다(22-30).  그리스도께서 모든 교회의 머리되시기에, 지역 교회들은 한 몸이기 때문입니다.

내 주위의 사람들이 나를 어떤 사람으로 불러줄까요...?

[Devotional Reflection 366] Acts 11:19-30 (052624) "What Title Do You Wish to Be Called?"

I am a pastor. However, I often tell the members of the church I serve, and others I know, that I do not wish for my tombstone to read "Pastor Bae Hun-Suk." This is because I believe the most precious, important, and honorable title in the world is "Christian." Therefore, if my tombstone were to be inscribed, I would prefer it to read "Christian Bae Hun-Suk." In fact, I hope that when people think of me, the first thing that comes to mind is, "He is a Christian."

The members of the Antioch church did not call themselves Christians. The phrase "and in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians" (Acts 11:26) indicates that it was the people of the region who referred to them as such. I believe a true title is one that best fits the person and is recognized by others. When people naturally call someone by that title, it holds true meaning.

Why is the title "Christian" so important? Because there is true power in Christ.

- Christians, despite persecution, spread the kingdom of God more widely and powerfully (verses 19-21). This is because of their living faith in the resurrection and its power.

- Christians cooperate, unite, and help each other regardless of their church (verses 22-30). This is because Christ is the head of all churches, and local churches form one body.
