유대인 베드로 사도가 이방인 고넬료를 만난다는 것은 엄청난 변혁의 상황입니다.  유대교를 믿었던 고넬료가 예수를 그리스도로 고백하게 되는 것 또한 큰 변혁입니다.  정결법에 어긋난 음식을 받고, 깨끗한 것으로 인정하게 되는 것 또한 큰 변혁에 속합니다.

이렇듯 사도행전 10장은 변혁들이 많이 나오는 변혁의 장(chapter of transformations)입니다.  잘못된 삶의 방향과 가치관을 다시 바르게 잡는 것이 변혁입니다.  그런 면에서 우리 삶을 돌아 볼 때 변혁되어야 할 요소들이 많음을 우리는 보게 됩니다.  

만약 나의 삶에 '변혁의 요소는 없다'라고 말하신다면 그것은 틀린 얘기이고, 그런 자세 부터 변혁되어야 할 것이기 때문입니다.  왜냐하면 죄의 가치관이 아직도 득세하고 있는 이 땅에 살면서 완전한 영화(glorification)의 단계를 갖지 못하고 성화(sanctification)의 단계를 겪고 있는 것이 이 땅에서의 성도의 삶이기에, 아무리 많이 변화 되어도, 조금은 변혁의 영역이 남아 있을 수 밖에 없습니다.

그래서 성도는 언제나 자신의 삶을 돌아보며 변혁의 영역을 찾아 보아야 하고, 그렇게 함으로 교회가, 성도가, 목회자가 늘 '순수하고, 참된 복음적, 성경적' 자세를 갖게 됩니다.  변화를 거부할 경우, 가장 불순하고, 세속화 된 모습이라 보면 되겠습니다.

변화 혹은 변혁을 위해서 가져야 할 자세가 무엇일까요?

첫째는 질문하는 자세입니다.

오늘 본문을 볼 때 베드로는 자신에게 주어진 상황에 대해서 '의아해 하고'(17), 질문하며(21), 시간을 두고 고민하는(23) 자세를 보여 줍니다.  변화를 위해서는 이렇게 돌아보고, 질문하는 자세가 필요합니다.  

둘째는 상위법에 순종하는 자세입니다.

유대인으로서 이방인을 만나는 것은 위법입니다(28).  그러나 그 규례에 머물러 있으면 결코 변혁을 갖지 못하고, 현재의 틀과 제약에 머무르게 됩니다.  베드로는 하나님께서 자신에게 지시하신 것이 더 중요한 상위법임을 인정하고, 그 상위법에 순종함으로(28-29), 유대인으로서 이방인을 만나 복음을 전하는 변혁의 삶으로 인도함 받습니다.

세째는 하나님을 늘 향하는 것입니다.

베드로도, 고넬료도 하나님을 향했고, 기도했고, 하나님의 뜻대로 살려는 자세를 가졌습니다.  그런 열망가운데 베드로에게도, 고넬료에게도 사람의 상황을 뛰어 넘는 초자연적인 하나님의 인도하심(예를 들어 환상... 천사를 통해 말씀하심)을 체험하게 됩니다.  상황상 하나님의 이러한 초자연적인 나타나심과 나눔이 필요할 경우 하나님께서 이렇게 행하십니다.

교회와 성도는 늘 변혁되어야 합니다.  

목회자는 앞에서 섬기기에 더욱 변혁의 요소가 없는지를 겸손히, 냉철히 자신을 살펴 보아야 합니다.

그리고 그런 변혁의 자세와 삶을 통하여

하나님은 복음이 제약되지 않고, 순수하게, 그리고 모든 제약을 뛰어 넘어

온 세계로, 열방으로, 삶의 모든 영역으로 복음이 전파되게 하십니다.

내가 변화/변혁되어야 

내가 복음을 막는 자가 아니라

복음 전파의 도구와 통로가 될 수 있는 것입니다.

내가 변혁되지 않고 있다면...

내가 그 영역에서의 복음 전파를 막고 있음을 기억해야 합니다!

"How Can We Achieve Change/Reformation...?"

For the Jewish apostle Peter to meet the Gentile Cornelius was a situation of tremendous transformation. Similarly, for Cornelius, who believed in Judaism, to confess Jesus as the Christ was also a significant transformation. Accepting food considered unclean by Jewish dietary laws and acknowledging it as clean also represents a great transformation.

Acts 10 is thus a chapter full of transformations. Reformation involves correcting the direction and values of a misguided life. When we reflect on our lives, we see many elements that need reformation.

If someone says, "There are no elements in my life that need reformation," that statement is incorrect, and that attitude itself needs to be reformed. This is because we live in a world where sinful values are still prevalent, and we have not yet reached the stage of complete glorification. Instead, we are going through the process of sanctification. No matter how much we have changed, there will always be some areas needing reformation.

Therefore, believers should always examine their lives to identify areas needing reformation. Doing so ensures that the church, its members, and its leaders maintain a pure, truly gospel-centered, and biblical stance. Refusing change is a sign of impurity and secularization.

What attitudes should we adopt to achieve change or reformation?

First, a questioning attitude.

In today's passage, Peter demonstrates a questioning attitude by being "perplexed" (v. 17), asking questions (v. 21), and taking time to ponder (v. 23). To embrace change, we need to reflect and question.

Second, obedience to higher laws.

As a Jew, meeting a Gentile was against the law (v. 28). However, sticking to this rule would prevent transformation, keeping us within the current limitations. Peter recognizes that God's command is a higher law and obeys it (v. 28-29), leading him to a transformative life where he meets and shares the gospel with Gentiles.

Third, always seeking God.

Both Peter and Cornelius had a heart for God, prayed, and sought to live according to His will. In their fervent desire, they experienced God's supernatural guidance (e.g., visions, angelic messages) that transcended human circumstances. When necessary, God acts supernaturally to guide His people.

The church and its members must always be open to transformation.

Pastors, especially those serving from the front, must humbly and critically examine themselves for areas needing reformation.

Through such attitudes and lives of transformation,

God ensures that the gospel is not hindered but spread purely and beyond all limitations

to the whole world, to all nations, and into every area of life.

If we are to become tools and channels for gospel propagation, rather than obstacles, we must remember the necessity of our own reformation.

If we are not being transformed...

we must recognize that we are blocking the spread of the gospel in that area!
