(대상 13:1-14)

‘하나님의 궤를 새 수레에 싣고 아비나답의 집에서 나오는데 웃사와 아히오는 수레를 몰며…’(7)

베레스 웃사라는 지명은 매우 비극적인 지명입니다.  즐겁게 기뻐해야 할 영광의 장소가 죽음을 당하게 된 진노의 장소가 되었기 때문입니다.  즉, 하나님의 궤를 옮겨 오는 과정에서 웃사가 하나님의 궤를 함부로 만지다 하나님의 진노를 받고, 그 자리에서 죽게 된 곳입니다.

어떻게 이런 비극의 상황을 맞이하게 된 것일까요?  두가지 정도를 정리해  볼 수 있을 것 같습니다.  첫째는, 이렇게 된 근원을 찬찬히 따져 봐야 한다는 사실입니다.  원래 법궤는 고리에 채를 끼워 레위 사람이 어깨에 메어 운반해야 하는 것입니다(출 25:12-15).

그런데 수레에 싣고 아비나답의 집에서 옮겨오는 출발을 하게 됩니다(7).  그런데 기돈의 타작 마당에 이르러서 법궤를 실은 소들이 뛰게 되자 법궤가 수레로 부터 떨어질 것을 염려한 웃사가 함부로 궤를 붙들다 죽게 된 것입니다(9).

누구의 잘 못 입니까?  실은 법궤를 수레에 실은 것 부터가 잘 못입니다.  웃사가 함부로 궤를 만진 잘 못이 있지만, 그 이전의 원인 제공은 법궤를 수레에 실은 것 부터가 잘 못이었던 것입니다.

여기서 둘째 묵상내용을 정리하게 됩니다.  그것은 하나님 앞에서 성도가 가져야 할 엄중한 자세 입니다.  은혜로 구원 받았다고, 하나님을 함부로 대해서는 안됩니다.  십자가의 피 값, 즉 예수 그리스도의 생명값이 은혜의 값입니다.

그렇다면 그 은혜는 값싼 것이 아닙니다.  그러나 법궤를 함부로 소가 끄는 수레에 싣고 가다 수레로 부터 떨어질까 염려해서 함부로 붙잡는 ‘모든’ 과정 안에는 하나님에 대한 가벼운 자세가 담겨져 있었던 것입니다.  은혜로 구원 받았지만, 하나님에 대해서 가볍게, 함부로, 값싸게 대해서는 안됨은 분명한 사실입니다.

깊은 감사와 깊은 경외심과 깊은 진지함이 매 주일 예배 때 올려 드려져야 할 것입니다.  바리새적 율법주의적 관점이 아닌, 하나님의 은혜의 무게를 생각함에서 나온 진정한 엄중함의 마음에서 나오는… 그런 매 주일 예배가 될 때 삶의 현장에서 드리는 ‘삶의 예배’도 가장 깊은 진지함으로 매 순간 드려지게 될 것입니다.

나는 매 주일 예배를 어떻게 준비하고, 어떻게 참석하고, 어떻게 올려 드리고 있습니까?

(1 Chronicles 13:1–14)

"They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding the cart…" (v. 7)

Perez Uzzah is a name that represents a very tragic location. A place that should have been filled with joy and glory became a place of wrath and death.

That is, while transporting the ark of God, Uzzah touched the ark carelessly, incurred God’s wrath, and died on the spot.

How did such a tragic event come to be?

We can summarize two key points.

First, we must carefully trace the root cause of the incident.

Originally, the ark was to be carried by Levitical priests using poles inserted through rings on its sides (Exodus 25:12–15).

However, in this passage, they began to transport it on a cart from Abinadab’s house (v. 7).

When they reached the threshing floor of Kidon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark—and died (v. 9).

Whose fault was it?

The root of the problem was putting the ark on a cart in the first place.

While Uzzah was wrong to touch the ark, the initial mistake was deciding to place it on a cart.

Second, this leads us to a reflection: the serious and reverent attitude believers must have before God.

Just because we are saved by grace doesn’t mean we can treat God lightly.

The cost of grace was the blood of the cross, the life of Jesus Christ.

Therefore, grace is not cheap.

The whole process—placing the ark on a cart, letting oxen pull it, worrying it might fall, and touching it carelessly—reveals a careless attitude toward God.

Even though we are saved by grace, it is clear we must never treat God lightly, carelessly, or cheaply.

Each Sunday’s worship must be offered with deep gratitude, deep reverence, and deep sincerity.

Not from a Pharisaic legalistic mindset, but from a heart that truly weighs the gravity of God’s grace.

When this kind of genuine seriousness fills our weekly worship, then our daily lives will also become true worship—offered with the same depth and seriousness.
