(이사야 34:1-17)

하나님은 만왕의 왕, 만국의 왕이십니다.  그래서 이스라엘 뿐만 아니라 모든 나라(열국)가 심판의 대상이고, 또한 구원의 대상이십니다.  잊지 말고 기억해야 할 것은 나를 포함한 모든 사람, 모든 나라, 모든 민족이 죄로 인해 진멸된 존재(하나님으로 부터 관계가 끊어진 상태)라는 사실입니다(1-4).

그 한 예로 에돔을 향하여 하나님의 무서운 진노를 말씀하십니다(5-7).  에돔의 처참한 타락의 모습, 그리고 이에 대한 처절한 심판의 모습은 삶의 기준, 세계관 등이 질서와 공의가 아니라 혼란의 줄과 공허의 추로 인도함 받는 죄악 세상을 가리킵니다(8-15).

이러한 경고와 심판은 오직 하나님의 말씀(여호와의 책)을 가감없이, 철저하게 대하고, 순종할 때 유일한 회복, 완전한 재창조와 부흥으로 인도함 받게 될 것입니다(16-17).

성경은 창조부터 타락, 구원과 회복, 그리고 영원한 하나님 나라까지 완벽하게, 진리만을 우리에게 주시는 살아있는 하나님의 말씀입니다.  이 말씀을 이번 새학기에는 온 마음 다해 바르게, 깊게, 실제적으로 배우고, 순종하며 살기를 간절히 소망합니다!

“너희는 여호와의 책에서 찾아 읽어 보라 이것들 가운데서 빠진 것이 하나도 없고 제 짝이 없는 것이 없으리니 이는 여호와의 입이 이를 명령하셨고 그의 영이 이것들을 모으셨음이라”(16)

(Isaiah 34:1–17)

God is the King of kings and the King of all nations. Therefore, not only Israel but all nations are both the objects of His judgment and the recipients of His salvation. What we must never forget is that every person, including ourselves, and every nation and people are, because of sin, deserving of destruction—that is, we are in a state of being separated from God (1–4).

As one example, God declares His terrifying wrath against Edom (5–7). The horrifying picture of Edom’s moral and spiritual downfall, together with the devastating judgment that follows, points to a sinful world in which the standards for life and the worldview that guide us are not governed by order and justice, but are instead led by confusion and emptiness (8–15).

Such warnings and judgments will lead us to the only true restoration, complete re-creation, and revival when we deal with the Word of God—the Book of the LORD—without adding to or taking away from it, taking it seriously and thoroughly, and obeying it (16–17).

The Bible is the living Word of God, giving us nothing but perfect truth—from creation, through the Fall, salvation and restoration, all the way to the eternal Kingdom of God. As we begin this new academic year, my earnest hope is that we will learn and obey God’s Word with all our hearts, rightly, deeply, and practically, and live it out in our daily lives!

“Look in the book of the LORD and read: Not one of these will be missing; not one will lack her mate. For his mouth has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.” (16)
