(사순절 19일째)

죽어야 할 것, 살아야 할 것

“네가 만일 네 입으로 예수를 주로 시인하며 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 것을 네 마음에 믿으면 구원을 받으리라”(로마서 10:9)

예수님을 기억할 때 항상 두가지가 늘 떠오르게 됩니다.  

죽음과 부활!  

그렇습니다.  십자가의 죽음은 우리(나)때문에/위하여 죽으신 것이고, 부활하심은 우리도 주님을 믿을 때, 새롭게 태어날 뿐만 아니라, 시간적/질적 삶의 영생으로 인도함 받는다는 의미입니다.

부활의 전제는 죽는 것입니다.  실제 우리의 삶에는 죽어야 하고, 죽여야 할 것이 너무나 많습니다.  죄성의 자아, 욕심, 욕망, 교만, 물욕, 성욕, 명예욕, 이기적 자세, 하나님을 믿지 않으려고 하는 영적 무지함, 종교주의, 쾌락주의, 현세주의 등 등…

이러한 죄의 모습이 죽어야 하고, 죽여야 하지만… 더 기억할 것은 그런 죄인은 이미 하나님을 떠남으로 생명이 없는 죽음의 상태에 있는 존재라는 사실입니다.  

마치 화려하게 보이는 꽃송이도 이미 뿌리와 가지로부터 잘려진 상태에서는 아무리 화려해도 죽은 상태인 것처럼.

죽었는데도 살았다고 착각하거나, 잠시 화려한 모습이 있어서 영원히 그렇게 살 것 같고, 그렇게 다 누리며 자신이 전부라고 생각하며 살아가는 자세는 ‘어리석음’이라는 또 다른 죄성의 모습만 더 할 뿐입니다.

이미 죽었음을 인정하신다면, 

우리는 지금 죽은 자 가운데서 살려 주시는 

예수님을 ‘주’로 시인하며 영접합시다.  

그래야 삽니다!

Must Die, Must Live

"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Whenever we remember Jesus, two things always come to mind.

Death and Resurrection!

Indeed, the death on the cross was for us/for our sake, and the resurrection signifies not only that we are reborn when we believe in the Lord but also that we are led into eternal life, both in terms of time and quality.

The premise of resurrection is death. In our actual lives, there is so much that must die and be killed. The sinful self, greed, desires, pride, materialism, lust, ambition for honor, selfish attitudes, spiritual ignorance of not wanting to believe in God, religiosity, hedonism, secularism, etc.

Such manifestations of sin must die and be killed... but what's more important to remember is that such a sinner is already a being in a state of lifeless death by departing from God.

Just as a flower, no matter how glamorous, is in a state of death when cut off from its roots and branches.

To be dead yet deluded into thinking one is alive, or to have a momentary glamorous appearance and think that one will live forever in that state, enjoying everything, thinking oneself to be everything, only adds to the folly, another form of sinful nature.

If you acknowledge that you are already dead,

let us now receive Jesus as "Lord," who raises us from the dead.

That's how we live!
