(사순절 28일째)

영광에서 영광에 이르니…

“우리가 다 수건을 벗은 얼굴로 거울을 보는 것같이 주의 영광을 보매 그와 같은 형상으로 변화하여 영광에서 영광에 이르니 곧 주의 영으로 말미암음이니라”(고후 3:18)

‘영광’이라는 단어는 함부로 사용하면 안됩니다.  유명하거나 위대한 사람 만날 때 ‘영광입니다’라고 표현할 수 있지만, 이 표현은 ‘하나님의 영광’이라는 표현과는 비교할 수 없는 차이가 있음을 알아야 합니다.

‘영광’(kabod)은 ‘무게(weight), 강함(strength), 광채(splendor), 풍성(abundance)’이라는 뜻으로 하나님의 임재와 함께 나타나는 것을 말합니다.  즉, 하나님의 영광이 임할 때 최고의 무게로 인해 어떤 상황에서도 흔들리지 않고, 또 강하고, 빛나고, 풍성하여 흘러 넘치는 복의 통로가 되는 삶을 말합니다.  

이는 그 어떤 피조물을 통해서도 받을 수 없는 능력을 말합니다.  왜냐하면 피조물은 흔들리고, 가볍고, 한계가 있으며, 풍성하지 않기 때문입니다.

중요한 것은 주님께서 다시 오실 때, 성도는 하나님의 영광을 보게 되고, 그 영광을 보게 될 때 성도도 그와 같은 형상으로 변화한다고 오늘 본문은 말씀 하십니다.  즉 영광된 존재가 되어서 하나님의 영광에 이르게 된다고 하십니다.  이 얼마나 놀라운 영광입니까? 

더 중요한 것은 이 땅에서도 그 영광을 체험할 수 있다는 사실입니다.  그것은 예배를 통해 지성소의 하나님, 즉 영광으로 임재하시는 하나님을 체험할 수 있습니다.  이 영광이 광대하고, 능력있고, 강력하기에 성도의 삶에서 예배는 참으로 중요합니다.  예수님은 스스로 성전 휘장을 찢으심으로 성도로 하여금 그 지성소의 영광을 누구나 예배를 통해 체험할 수 있도록 하셨습니다.

그래서 일주일의 첫 날인 주일예배를 영광의 임재로 드릴 때, 영광의 무게와 풍성함이 흘러 넘쳐서 일주일 내내 매일 삶의 예배로 나아가게 되고, 그 삶의 예배를 통해 하나님의 영광의 임재를 더 체험하고, 더 나누게 됩니다.  

그 영광은 무게가 있기에 흔들리지 않는 삶을 살게 되고, 풍성하기에 나누고 섬기게 되는 ‘복의 통로’의 삶으로 인도합니다.  참된 예배를 통해 뜻이 하늘에서 이루어 진 것 같이 이 땅에서도 이루어지는, 하나님 나라의 임재를 체험하게 됩니다.

그래서 내일 드리는 주일 공예배는 참으로 중요합니다.  전 세계에서 드리는 모든 교회의 주일 예배를 통해 하나님의 놀라운 영광이 임재하시기를 간절히 기도 드립시다.

From Glory to Glory…

"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18)

The word "glory" should not be used lightly. Although we can say "It's an honor" when meeting someone famous or great, we must recognize that there is an incomparable difference between this expression and the expression of "God's glory."

"Glory" (kabod) means "weight," "strength," "splendor," "abundance," and refers to what manifests in the presence of God. When God's glory comes, it speaks of a life that does not waver under the greatest weight, is strong, shines brightly, and overflows with blessings as a channel of abundance.

This power is something that cannot be received through any created being. Because created beings are unstable, light, limited, and not abundant.

Importantly, the scripture for today says that when the Lord returns, the saints will see God's glory, and upon seeing it, they will be transformed into the same image. In other words, they become glorious beings who reach the glory of God. What an amazing glory this is!

More importantly, it's possible to experience this glory even on this earth. Through worship, one can experience God in the Holy of Holies, the God who is present in glory. The glory is so vast, powerful, and potent that worship plays a crucial role in the life of a saint. Jesus made it possible for anyone to experience this glory of the Holy of Holies through worship by tearing the temple curtain Himself.

Therefore, when the Sunday service, the first day of the week, is offered in the presence of glory, the weight and abundance of that glory overflow, leading us to daily life worship throughout the week, through which we experience and share the presence of God's glory even more.

This glory, having weight, leads to a life that does not waver and, being abundant, guides us to a life as a "channel of blessings" that shares and serves. Through true worship, we experience the presence of the kingdom of God, making what is done in heaven done on earth.

Hence, the Sunday worship service tomorrow is truly important. Let us earnestly pray that the amazing glory of God would be present in all the Sunday services held worldwide.
